JAN EKIERT

(1907-1993)

Jan Ekiert – painter. Born in 1909 in Kombornia (Subcarpathia, currently part of the Polish Podkarpackie Voivodeship). He fought in WWII and was imprisoned in a camp in Germany. After the war, he settled in Paris where he studied, among others, at Fine Arts School and at the Academy of the Grande Chaumière. He was linked to post-war Parisian emigration, including the Kultura circle. In 1961, he won the artistic prize of Kultura. His works were often exhibited in Parisian galleries and are currently in French and Polish public and private collections (among others, the Lodz Museum of Art, the National Museum of Przemysl, and the National Museum of Cracow….). He died in Paris in 1993.
